Celebrating Academic Excellence in Kongoussi: A Day to Remember!
In the heart of Kongoussi, Burkina Faso, a remarkable event unfolded on Saturday, July 5, that highlighted the incredible achievements of students and educators. Over 50 star pupils from Teksum schools were celebrated during the annual Day of Academic Excellence, organized by the provincial directorate of preschool, primary, and non-formal education (DPEPPNF) of Bam.
This inspiring ceremony, covered by Africazine, brought together an enthusiastic crowd eager to honor achievements in education. The event recognized a diverse group of talented students: approximately fifty primary school students, five secondary school students, and two from higher education. Each recipient was rewarded for their hard work and dedication with school kits, bicycles, and certificates of achievement, all aimed at fostering a spirit of excellence.
Attendees were graced by the presence of the High Commissioner of Bam Province, Karim Ouédraogo, alongside the schools’ patron, Norwegian architect Per Tor Teksum, who flew in specifically for this uplifting occasion. This year marked the fifth celebration of the Day of Excellence, a collaboration with the NGO A Better Life Foundation, creating a platform for acknowledgment and motivation among the students.
Naba Ilboudo, the provincial director of the DPEPPNF, praised the combined efforts of the dedicated teachers and determined students, while also highlighting the sustained support from Mr. Teksum. He noted the impressive success rates in the CEP exam—an encouraging indicator of the positive impact stemming from their partnership.
Adama Ouédraogo, representing Per Tor Teksum in Burkina Faso, shared his pride in the students’ accomplishments. He noted that nearly every student from Teksum schools achieved exceptional pass rates, with only one student among 84 not passing. Such statistics speak volumes about the effectiveness of the educational programs in place.
Mr. Teksum reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing the Burkinabe education system, particularly in disadvantaged areas. Looking ahead, he announced ambitious plans to construct a technical college in Kongoussi, aimed at providing further educational opportunities for graduates of the Teksum schools.
Since beginning his mission in 2005, Mr. Teksum has transformed education in the North-Central region of Burkina Faso, designing and building twelve schools named after him, significantly contributing to the region’s educational landscape.
This celebration of achievement serves not only as recognition of hard work but also as a reminder of the positive progress being made in education across Burkina Faso. The future certainly looks bright for these students, and their dedication is paving the way for a better tomorrow.
