New Classrooms at Ekondjo Primary School: A Step Forward for Education in Namibia

In an exciting development for the Kavango West Region, Ekondjo Primary School has officially unveiled its new classrooms and administrative facilities, thanks to generous funding from the Namibia Fish Consumption Promotion Trust (NFCPT) in collaboration with the Namibian Institute of Mining and Technology (NIMT). This investment, totaling an impressive N. dollars 2.4 million, is set to redefine the learning experience for students at the school.

Before the construction, the school faced challenges with inadequate facilities, including makeshift classrooms that operated under trees. The new project features four state-of-the-art classrooms, full administrative offices, a staff room, a reception area, and proper sanitation facilities, including a septic tank to improve the school’s sewage systems. This transformation not only enhances the physical environment but creates a much-needed supportive atmosphere for educational growth.

Victor Pea, the Chief Executive Officer of NFCPT, shared insights during the donation ceremony about the inspiration behind this initiative. After a visit to Ekondjo Primary School in 2023, part of the ‘Catch Them Young’ educational campaign, the challenges faced by the school became evident. Pea stated, “We could not ignore the educational challenges witnessed during our visit. By engaging with students and promoting the importance of fish consumption, we were also made aware of the pressing need for better infrastructure.”

This project is part of a larger initiative costing N. dollars four million, which also includes support for Sangwali Combined School in the Zambezi Region. The Trust is committed to ensuring the funds are used efficiently for construction instead of excessive profit margins, partnering with NIMT for technical expertise and Reality Investment CC as subcontractors.

Suzan Ndjaleka, Chairperson of the NFCPT Board of Trustees, highlighted that this initiative reflects the Trust’s broader corporate social investment agenda aimed at improving educational infrastructure across Namibia. “We believe that by enhancing our learning institutions, we contribute to keeping students in school and ensuring they receive a high-quality education,” she enthused.

Ndjaleka also called on additional stakeholders to join in supporting similar projects, particularly in providing essential furnishings for the newly built facilities.

The establishment of these modern classrooms at Ekondjo Primary School is a significant step toward bridging the educational gap in rural areas. This transformation from classes held under trees to a contemporary learning environment exemplifies the strides being made to uplift educational standards and provide quality education to Namibia’s future leaders.

With such initiatives, the commitment to enhancing education simply underscores the importance of collaboration and investment in the youth of Namibia. For future updates on educational initiatives, stay tuned to Africazine.
