“Air Algérie Boosts Fleet with Exciting New Order of 16 ATR 72-600 Aircraft!”

Air Algérie Takes Flight with New ATR Aircraft to Boost Regional Connectivity

DALLAS – On July 4, Air Algérie made headlines with an exciting announcement: the airline ordered 16 brand-new ATR 72-600 aircraft. This strategic move marks a significant step in enhancing regional connectivity within Algeria, particularly through its newly established subsidiary, Domestic Airlines, aimed at serving smaller, underserved routes.

The addition of these modern turboprops is designed to improve air travel options across the country, making it easier for passengers in less accessible areas to connect with major cities. According to Africazine, this initiative aligns perfectly with Air Algérie’s mission to provide reliable domestic service while bolstering local economies by linking more remote regions with vital transport networks.

But that’s not all. Along with this impressive fleet addition, Air Algérie will also receive a training simulator tailored for the ATR 72-600 aircraft, ensuring that their crew is well-prepared and ready to operate these new planes efficiently. This commitment to training and readiness highlights the airline’s dedication to operational excellence.

Air Algérie’s partnership with ATR stretches back more than two decades, and the national carrier is recognized as ATR’s biggest customer in Africa. The airline has relied on ATR aircraft since 2003, making earlier orders in 2008 and 2014. Currently, their fleet comprises 12 ATR 72-500s and 3 ATR 72-600s, an integral part of their regional operations. This latest order not only deepens that partnership but also underscores Air Algérie’s ongoing commitment to modernizing its fleet for a sustainable future.

The new ATR 72-600s will be powered by Pratt & Whitney’s state-of-the-art PW127XT engine, promising impressive fuel efficiency improvements and reduced maintenance costs. With these upgrades, Air Algérie aims to reduce its carbon footprint while ensuring robust connections across Algeria and neighboring regions.

As Domestic Airlines gears up to commence operations with the new aircraft starting in 2026, the vision is clear. This investment emphasizes the airline’s promise to enhance domestic air travel, fostering easier access between cities and remote locations.

Hamza Benhamouda, CEO of Air Algérie, expressed excitement about the potential of the ATR 72-600: “This aircraft is crucial for connecting all regions of our country and supporting national development. Its efficiency on short routes complements our commitment to sustainability, operational excellence, and the future of regional aviation in Algeria.”

With these developments, Air Algérie positions itself as a leader in African aviation, championing the cause for comprehensive and responsible air travel. This innovative move is a testament to the country’s commitment to fostering connectivity and boosting its burgeoning tourism industry.
