In a significant step towards promoting sustainable energy, Scatec, a well-known player in the renewable energy sector, has inked a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) valued in USD with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC). This exciting development kicks off plans for a robust 900 MW wind farm, spearheaded through Scatec’s dedicated project entity known as Shadwan Wind Power SAE. This initiative is set to bolster Egypt’s ongoing commitment to creating a greener, more sustainable energy landscape.
Scatec’s CEO, Terje Pilskog, expressed enthusiasm about the project, emphasizing its importance in showcasing Scatec’s leadership within the renewable sector in Egypt. “This project is a testament to Scatec’s position as one of the leading renewables companies in Egypt. We are now advancing four major renewables projects in the country, with a diversified technology base. I would like to thank all parties involved for making this happen, with particular acknowledgment to the skills and persistence of our Egyptian team,” Pilskog noted.
The wind project will be strategically situated in Ras Shukeir, capturing one of the world’s most favorable onshore wind resources. Following this PPA signing, the next steps will involve wind measurements at the site, which are slated to be completed in the first half of 2026. Once this phase is wrapped up, the project will progress toward financial closure and construction, marking a pivotal moment in Egypt’s energy sector.
This advancement aligns well with Egypt’s ongoing efforts to diversify its energy portfolio and enhance the reliance on renewables. With abundant natural energy resources, Egypt is on a transformative journey to become a regional leader in sustainable energy. The Ras Shukeir wind project not only promises to generate a substantial amount of clean energy but also stands as a beacon of international collaboration in combatting climate change.
As countries around the globe increasingly prioritize sustainable practices, initiatives like this stand out as vital contributions to a greener future. With Scatec’s involvement, Egyptians can look forward to a brighter, cleaner energy future, reinforcing the importance of international partnerships in achieving sustainable development goals.
