Governor Eliminates Funding Delays for UBE, Paving the Way for Educational Progress in Anambra!

In a significant move for educational reform, Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, has successfully cleared a backlog of counterpart funding for the Universal Basic Education (UBE) matching grants. By addressing three years’ worth of arrears, the state is now poised to access essential funding for the years 2022, 2023, and 2024. This development signals a robust commitment to improving education quality in the region, aligning with Governor Soludo’s vision for a brighter future for Anambra’s youth.

During a recent midterm briefing on UBE project implementation for 2019–2021, Dr. Vera Nwadinobi, Chairperson of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), detailed the transformative steps taken by the Soludo administration. “Before Professor Soludo took office on March 17, 2022, Anambra had unaccessed UBE matching grants dating back to 2019. This delay was primarily due to our previous inability to meet counterpart funding obligations,” Nwadinobi noted. “Thanks to Governor Soludo’s decisive leadership, we have cleared these backlogs, allowing Anambra to meet the criteria for accessing the upcoming grants.”

Nwadinobi enthusiastically celebrated this achievement, highlighting the administration’s unwavering commitment to educational funding. “Under less than three years, Governor Soludo has not only resolved past financial hurdles but has also ensured our ongoing funding commitments are met,” she asserted. “At ASUBEB, we are fully aligned with his vision and are dedicated to executing it with thoroughness. Anambra is truly back to winning ways!”

On June 16, 2025, in a further testament to its commitment to quality education, Anambra State signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC). This agreement is set to enhance educational infrastructure and administration within the state. Following the signing, Anambra’s representatives participated in a high-level training on new funding templates for UBE matching grants, held from June 19-20 at the Abuja Continental Hotel. Conducted by UBEC Executive Secretary, Hajiya Aisha Garba, this training enhances the state’s capacity to efficiently manage and utilize national education grants.

The renewed access to these critical educational funds is expected to spur significant advancements in infrastructure development, teacher training, and curriculum delivery across public primary and junior secondary schools in Anambra. Governor Soludo’s proactive approach not only reflects a commitment to education but also serves as a model for other states aiming to enhance their educational landscapes.

With such strides, Anambra is not only primed for enhanced educational outcomes but has set a notable precedent for educational reform throughout Nigeria. #Nigeria #Education #Politics #WorldNews
