In a major step towards expanding regional connectivity, flynas, one of the most prominent low-cost airlines in the world, has launched direct flights between Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Damascus, Syria, marking a significant milestone as the first Saudi airline to do so in twelve years. This noteworthy development took place on June 5, aligning with flynas’s growth strategy aimed at enhancing access for travelers and boosting tourism across the region.
The inaugural launch ceremony took place at King Khalid International Airport (KKIA) in Riyadh, graced by notable attendees including Syrian Charge d’Affaires Hussain Abdulaziz, representatives from flynas, and officials from the Riyadh Airports Company. A warm welcome awaited travelers on the inaugural flight, complete with giveaways. To commemorate the occasion, the aircraft received a spectacular “water salute” upon landing at Damascus International Airport, symbolizing the strengthening ties between the two nations. Saudi Charge d’Affaires Abdullah Al-Haris also attended the joyous reception.
This resumption of flights is significant for enhancing diplomatic and cultural connections between the two nations, reinforcing a sense of brotherhood. Previously, flynas provided direct flights from Riyadh and Jeddah to various Syrian cities including Aleppo and Latakia, showcasing its commitment to facilitating travel across the region.
flynas already operates an impressive network with 139 routes to over 70 destinations in 30 countries, delivering more than 2,000 flights weekly. Since its inception in 2007, the airline has successfully transported more than 80 million passengers. The company continues to work towards ambitious goals, aiming to bolster its service offerings to a total of 165 destinations as part of its expansive growth plan. This effort resonates with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative, aspiring to connect the Kingdom with over 250 international destinations and accommodate up to 330 million passengers every year.
Travelers interested in booking their flights can conveniently do so through various channels, including the flynas website, mobile app, or by contacting their call center.
This move not only enhances travel options for passengers but also signifies an optimistic outlook for future collaborations in tourism and commerce between Saudi Arabia and Syria.
