Celebrating Young Innovators: Shell Egypt's Impact on Entrepreneurship
On May 29, 2024, the vibrant atmosphere at the Intilaaqah Annual Awards Ceremony perfectly encapsulated the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurial drive among young Egyptians. Hosted by Shell Egypt in collaboration with Flat6Labs Egypt, this year’s event marked a significant milestone in the Shell Intilaaqah Egypt Programme, which has successfully supported over 1,000 eager innovators since its inception.
Operating across three Egyptian governorates, the Shell Intilaaqah Egypt Programme is dedicated to empowering youth with essential entrepreneurial skills. This year alone, 120 teams were immersed in hands-on training, receiving crucial mentorship designed to help refine their business ideas and enhance their operational capabilities. The programme strategically blended intensive bootcamps, incubation activities, and industry matchmaking sessions to ensure participants were fully equipped to leap into the world of business.
Dalia Elgabry, Vice President and Country Chair of Shell Egypt, expressed her pride in the program’s substantial impact: “At Shell, we believe in powering lives through energy and creating opportunities for people to thrive. By fostering entrepreneurship among Egypt’s youth, we are investing in the nation’s economic resilience, innovation ecosystem, and promoting inclusive growth.” It’s clear that Shell’s commitment to the community aligns seamlessly with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The excitement didn’t just stop at training. The programme featured two specialized tracks launched in March 2025, aimed at fostering early-stage concepts and enhancing growth-stage start-ups. These tracks, the Best Idea Programme and the Best Startup Programme, culminated in competitive judging days, where six outstanding teams were awarded financial prizes to propel their ventures forward.
Congratulations are in order for the winners! From the Best Idea Programme, the talented trio of Fast Octopus, BananaMed, and Gremrem emerged victorious, while the innovative minds behind Oz Tech, Bekya Pay, and Croptimus took home top honors in the Best Startup Programme. Their recognition not only acknowledges their hard work but also highlights the potential for real-world impact through entrepreneurship.
Hany Al Sonbaty, Chairman and Co-Founder of Flat6Labs, remarked on the exuberance displayed throughout the initiative: “The energy, creativity, and determination are truly remarkable. Together with Shell Egypt, we are building a pipeline of promising young businesses ready to tackle real-world challenges and drive sustainable economic growth.”
Shell’s investment in the future of young Egyptian entrepreneurs extends beyond just this programme. It showcases a broader commitment to social investment in collaboration with national and international partners, aiming to create a lasting positive impact on the community.
As Egypt continues to cultivate a new generation of innovators, initiatives like the Shell Intilaaqah Programme play a crucial role in shaping a promising future for both the youth and the economy. Here’s to the next wave of entrepreneurial leaders in Egypt!
