Lagos State APC Gears Up for Local Government Elections with Strategic Meeting
As the countdown to the July 12 local government elections continues, the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is setting the stage for an impactful electoral strategy. In an announcement that has garnered attention, the APC electoral committee is organizing a significant stakeholders’ meeting tailored for the party’s top brass, underscoring the importance of unity and direction in the upcoming electoral process.
This important gathering will convene at the APC secretariat located in Ikeja, Lagos, on Wednesday, per a statement released by committee chairman Babatunde Ogala and secretary Nurudeen Bamidele. The meeting aims to harness the collective wisdom of influential party members, ensuring that everyone is aligned as they prepare for the primaries.
Key invitees to this strategy session include notable figures in Lagos politics, such as Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, the chairman of the state Governance Advisory Council (GAC), along with the three serving senators representing Lagos. The meeting will also see participation from the chairmen of the 20 local governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), as well as members of the House of Representatives and the State House of Assembly affiliated with the APC.
Additionally, the gathering will feature apex leaders from the APC across the 57 Local Government Areas and LCDAs, all cleared chairmanship aspirants ready to contest the primaries, and outgoing council chairmen, ensuring that there is a robust representation from various facets of party leadership.
In a pivotal move, the ruling APC has slated Saturday as the designated date for the primaries across all council areas. Following the party’s guidelines, an indirect voting system will be employed for these primaries, with delegates sourced from executive members within the LGAs and LCDAs. This approach not only emphasizes the importance of experienced leadership but also seeks to foster a sense of inclusion and active participation in the democratic process.
As anticipation builds for the local government elections, it’s clear that the APC is committed to demonstrating effective leadership and strengthening its foundations in Lagos State. This proactive engagement among party leaders highlights a collective resolve to not only win the elections but to ensure that the voices of the people are heard and represented.
