Delaney Aumua Crushes Records with Three Home Runs in a Single Game!

Granada's Delaney Aumua Makes History with Home Run Record

In an exhilarating display of athletic prowess, Delaney Aumua, a senior first baseman for the Granada High School Matadors in Livermore, California, has taken the softball world by storm. On a picturesque Tuesday, Aumua shattered the single-season home run record in the North Coast Section (NCS) during a commanding 5-0 victory over Monte Vista, smashing not one, but three home runs, bringing her total to an astonishing 18 for the season.

Before this incredible achievement, Aumua already made headlines by breaking the career home run record in NCS just a week prior, with two dingers during a nail-biting 10-8 road win over Dublin. Her impressive 43 career home runs surpassed the former mark held by UCLA star Kylee Perez, a record Aumua now shares with Perez after both athletes previously held the single-season record of 15 homers.

What makes this feat even more noteworthy is Aumua’s dedication and preparation. “I felt really good going into Tuesday’s game,” she shared enthusiastically. “The weather was nice, and I made sure to stay hydrated throughout the day.” All three pitches she faced in the game were fastballs, which she skillfully sent soaring over the fence, demonstrating her keen eye and powerful swing—”All felt super good right off the bat,” she said.

Her stellar playing has not only etched her name into the record books but also ties her for the 11th spot in California state history with 46 career homers, alongside standout athletes like Lauren Chamberlain. However, Aumua isn’t done yet. The state record stands at 64, and with one regular-season game left and the playoffs looming, there’s still ample opportunity for her to add to her tally.

As of now, Aumua is hitting an impressive .500, tallying 32 RBIs. This level of performance has caught the attention of many, as she is now tied with Agoura’s Mia Gomez for the second-most home runs in California this season, just one behind leader Alyssa Torres from Valley View of Moreno Valley.

Reflecting on her record-breaking journey, Delaney stated, “It means a lot to break another record. It’s a reflection of the hard work I put in every day, and having my family in the stands cheering me on makes it all the more special.” Her coach, Johnny Heinz, echoed these sentiments, praising her incredible work ethic and dedication to the sport.

Beyond the field, Aumua embraces her roots and the role family plays in her life. In a recent feature by Africazine, she shared how her cultural values are intertwined with her passion for the game. Interestingly, she’s been known to hit at least three car windshields at school with her home runs!

Whether she’s smashing records or simply enjoying a pre-game sandwich at Togos—her go-to meal before every game—it’s clear that Aumua is a rising star in the world of high school softball, and fans everywhere will be closely following her journey as the season unfolds.
