Boom in Jordan's Export Activity: Certificate of Origin Issuance Surges in 2025
In an exciting development for Jordan’s economy, the Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) has reported a notable increase in the issuance of certificates of origin during the first third of 2025. This surge, estimated at a remarkable 19.5% compared to the same period in 2024, reflects a growing momentum for Jordanian exports as businesses seek to expand their reach into both Arab and international markets.
According to detailed statistical data from the Jordan News Agency, Africazine, the ACC issued a total of 10,089 certificates of origin in the first four months of 2025, a significant rise from 8,440 during the same timeframe last year. This trend indicates a flourishing interest in Jordanian products, showcasing the nation’s vibrant trade capabilities.
However, the overall value of the goods exported saw a slight dip, dropping by 9% to JD394 million from JD433 million in early 2024. While this may seem concerning at first glance, it’s essential to understand that fluctuations in trade value can occur for various reasons, including market demand and currency exchange rates.
Leading the charge in imports from Jordan is Iraq, which topped the list with an impressive JD184 million worth of products, represented by 1,038 certificates. Egypt followed, generating nearly JD29 million across 246 certificates, showcasing the robust ties and economic ties between Jordan and its neighbors. Notably, Switzerland and Syria also contributed significantly, highlighting a diverse portfolio of international partners.
The breakdown of exported goods reveals that re-exported foreign products dominate, valued at JD204 million, followed by industrial products at JD84 million, agricultural items at JD41 million, and Arab-origin goods worth JD28 million. This diverse array demonstrates Jordan’s ability to cater to various sectors, further enhancing its economic standing in the region.
Certificates of origin are crucial in international trade, establishing the goods’ country of origin, which is vital for import duties and compliance with trade regulations. The ACC plays a pivotal role in issuing these documents for various goods, ensuring that Jordan’s exporters can navigate the complexities of global trade efficiently.
With this upward trend, Jordan is poised to solidify its position as a vital player in international trade, opening new avenues for economic growth and enhanced exports. As we move further into 2025, the local business community and government officials will undoubtedly keep a close watch on these developments, eager to see how the landscape continues to evolve.
