In a remarkable display of fiscal responsibility, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has achieved a historic 95 percent implementation of its 2024 statutory budget, as announced by Minister Nyesom Wike. This achievement marks a significant improvement over previous benchmarks, showcasing the government’s commitment to infrastructure development and project execution.
In a statement released by the Director of Press, Anthony Ogunleye, the minister pointed out that this achievement reflects a focused effort to improve on the initial 90 percent implementation rate reported earlier in the year. “I can tell you we’ve executed no less than 95 percent of the budget implementation. This is a historic accomplishment, unprecedented in our records,” he stated enthusiastically.
Wike made his comments during a press briefing after inspecting various ongoing infrastructure projects in the Territory. Among the key projects nearing completion are the extensive 4-kilometer dual carriageway connecting Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III and the vital access road from Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway to Judges Quarters in Katampe District. Additionally, the renovation of the International Conference Centre is progressing impressively.
The minister credited the success to the National Assembly’s decision to extend the 2024 budget timeline until June 2025, providing the necessary funding and allowing for substantial project advancement. With optimism, Wike expressed hope for the swift approval of the 2025 budget, which has already been submitted.
“These projects are set to be inaugurated by Mr. President during his second-year anniversary celebrations. We have visited the International Conference Centre, which is nearing completion. The first phase of the N5 project will also be ready by the end of May,” Wike remarked.
Acknowledging the hard work of contractors, Wike praised their dedication and commitment to delivering high-quality results within the designated timelines, emphasizing the importance of prompt payments to prevent delays. “We are very impressed with the progress we’ve seen thus far. We remain on schedule to meet our objectives,” Wike concluded.
