Egypt and France Cultivate Stronger Economic Ties Amid Presidential Visit

April 6, 2025 – Cairo, Egypt

In a significant boost to bilateral relations, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron to Cairo today, marking the beginning of a multi-day official visit. The visit comes on the heels of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announcing that trade between Egypt and France is projected to reach a remarkable .9 billion by the end of 2024, a notable increase from .5 billion in 2023.

During this diplomatic engagement, President Macron and President el-Sisi will engage in discussions focusing on vital sectors such as health, transportation, water, and renewable energy. Both leaders are expected to witness the signing of multiple memoranda of understanding and agreements during a high-profile business forum designed to strengthen economic cooperation.

The trade figures reflect a growing interconnectedness. In 2024, Egypt exported goods worth billion to France, up from 5.4 million in 2023. On the import side, Egyptian purchases from France reached .8 billion in 2024, compared to .7 billion the previous year.

Among the standout exports from Egypt to France, electrical machinery and appliances lead the pack, valued at 8 million. Fertilizers (4 million), fuel and mineral oils (8 million), and fresh produce ( million) also featured prominently in the fiscal landscape. Meanwhile, Egypt imported pharmaceutical products worth 2 million, grains at 3 million, and vehicles totaling 5 million from France in 2024.

French investments in Egypt were similarly encouraging, totaling 3.8 million during the 2023/24 fiscal year, although this was a slight decrease from 1.3 million in the previous year. Conversely, Egyptian investments in France reached 8.3 million in the same period. Notably, remittances from Egyptians residing in France totaled .1 million, underscoring the important role of the Egyptian diaspora in economic ties.

As of April 2025, Egypt’s population stands at 107.5 million, while France’s population is recorded at 66.6 million. The presence of approximately 65,000 Egyptians living in France enriches the cultural tapestry and strengthens connections between these two nations.

In a world increasingly defined by collaboration, this reaffirmation of Egypt and France’s commitment to mutual growth and development is a positive development for both countries.

For those keen on global economic trends, this partnership highlights the importance of fostering strong international relations in today’s interconnected world. Keep an eye on this evolving story!
