“Eswatini and Japan Join Forces to Transform Agriculture with Innovative Mhlumeni High Lab”

Eswatini Partners with Japan to Enhance Agricultural Education at Mhlumeni High School

In an exciting development for educational infrastructure in Eswatini, the Ministry of Education and Training has joined forces with the Japanese Embassy to kickstart construction on a state-of-the-art Agriculture Laboratory at Mhlumeni High School, located in the picturesque Lubombo Region. This strategic partnership aims to empower students with essential agricultural skills that are increasingly vital in today’s economy.

Lungelo Nhlengetfwa, the Ministry’s Under Secretary for Schools, represented the ministry in signing the agreement, while Counsellor Andoi Kei graciously represented the Japanese Embassy. Recognizing the positive impact of Japan’s Grassroots Project, Nhlengetfwa expressed gratitude for the ongoing efforts that have significantly uplifted educational facilities across the nation. According to him, various schools have already benefited from improved infrastructure, including state-of-the-art Consumer Science, Science, and ICT Laboratories.

The addition of the Agriculture Laboratory is particularly crucial for Mhlumeni High School, which opened its doors to students in 2022. With this new facility, the school plans to integrate Agriculture into its curriculum, providing students with hands-on experience in farming techniques and sustainable agricultural practices. This not only equips young learners with practical skills but also fosters a new generation of agricultural innovators in Eswatini.

Martin Surtee, the headteacher of Mhlumeni High, also played a pivotal role in the agreement, further highlighting the collaborative effort towards enhancing the school’s academic offerings.

The investment in agricultural education embodies a forward-thinking approach in Eswatini. By blending traditional knowledge with modern techniques, this initiative positions students to thrive in both local and global agricultural landscapes. The government’s commitment to building better educational facilities not only supports students’ academic growth but also boosts the country’s potential in the agriculture sector.

With the establishment of the Agriculture Laboratory, Mhlumeni High School is set to become a beacon of agricultural learning and innovation in Eswatini. As the project unfolds, it reflects a promising future for both the school and the wider community, underlining the importance of education in unlocking new opportunities.

Stay tuned for more updates as this project progresses, and witness how Eswatini continues to enhance its educational framework for generations to come!
