Empowering Women Entrepreneurs: NEM ‘She Means Business’ Awards Shine Bright in Lagos

This past weekend, the vibrant city of Lagos played host to the second edition of the NEM ‘She Means Business’ awards, celebrating the entrepreneurial spirit of women across Nigeria. After an inspiring selection process, five outstanding female entrepreneurs were honored for their hard work and innovative ideas in a ceremony that coincided with the upcoming International Women’s Day in 2025.

The remarkable winners—Miracle Nneoma Njoku, Matimoju Olawunmi Regina, Toheebat Eniola Ismail, Taofikat Adetayo Jacob, and Grace Oluwadamilola Adeifa—each received a grant of 100,000 Naira to fuel their business ambitions. These awards highlight the essential role that women play in driving impactful change in the business landscape, showcasing their resilience and creativity.

At the event, Mrs. Mojisola Teluwo, General Manager of Corporate Services at NEM Insurance Plc, warmly welcomed the winners. “We celebrate women’s resilience, innovation, and their capacity to take action,” she said, radiating enthusiasm. Her message was clear: the hard work of these women has paved the way for the support they now receive, and she expressed excitement at witnessing their business ventures flourish.

The Managing Director and CEO, Andrew Ikekhua, represented by Executive Director of Finance & Investment, Mr. Idowu Semowo, offered sage advice to the winners. He encouraged them to invest wisely in their businesses and noted the undeniable impact of women in various spheres of life, emphasizing their strategic approaches to challenges.

Expressing gratitude, Grace Adeifa spoke on behalf of the winners, commending NEM’s efforts to empower female entrepreneurs. She shared her surprise at winning, having submitted her entry on the final day, and pledged to use the funds effectively to advance her business and positively impact the community.

Mr. Patrick Azurunwa, Group Head of Marketing at NEM Insurance, highlighted the company’s commitment to the ‘She Means Business’ initiative, established under the vision of their Chairman, Tope Smart. He encouraged the winners to be ambassadors for their brand, reminding them that as they grow, so will their needs for support, including insurance solutions.

This event not only highlights the importance of supporting women entrepreneurs in Nigeria but also sets a precedent for other organizations to prioritize gender inclusivity in business. The initiatives led by NEM Insurance underscore a growing commitment to foster a nurturing environment for women’s empowerment, positioning them as vital contributors to the economy.
