Empowering the Future: Eritrea's Vocational Training Program for Youth
Asmara, 08 March 2025 – In a remarkable initiative aimed at building skills and enhancing employability, Eritrea has recently concluded a vocational training program benefiting 208 college students, including 113 talented young women. Held at the prestigious Orotta College of Medicine and Science and the College of Business and Social Science, the three-month training covered an impressive array of subjects, including sign language, Arabic language, computer technology, photo editing, and electronics.
This initiative reflects a growing commitment to youth development in Eritrea. Dr. Yemane Seium, the Dean of Orotta College of Medicine and Science, expressed his appreciation for the National Union of Eritrean Youth and Students (NUEYS), the organizing body behind this invaluable program. He noted that such training initiatives are crucial in enhancing the overall capabilities of students. “These programs will empower our students and prepare them for the dynamic job market,” he stated, calling for the continuation of similar educational ventures in the future.
Mr. Abrhaley Asefaw, a representative from NUEYS at Sawa and the Higher Education Institutions, encouraged the students to apply their newly acquired skills in practical settings. He emphasized the importance of translating theoretical knowledge into actionable insights, which can lead to real-world improvements.
Highlighting the organization’s focus on the youth, Ms. Mensura Ismail, the head of NUEYS, reiterated that investing in the next generation remains a top priority. “Our youth are our future. It’s essential that we equip them with the tools they need to succeed and improve their livelihoods,” she said, motivating the trainees to harness their skills for personal and societal betterment.
This initiative is not only a celebration of educational advancement but also a vital step towards empowering the youth of Eritrea. By fostering a well-rounded skill set among young people, Eritrea is paving the way for a brighter economic future.
As we watch these young individuals embark on their journeys of growth and development, it’s clear that programs like this are instrumental in shaping a positive narrative for Eritrea’s youth, preparing them to make meaningful contributions to society.
