Sun 23 Feb 2025 | 10:53 PM

In a significant step towards enhancing educational collaboration, a high-profile delegation from Russia’s Peoples’ Friendship University has landed in Egypt for an inspiring week-long visit. From February 23 to March 1, this initiative aims to deepen the already fruitful educational ties between Egypt and Russia, signaling a bright future for educational exchange and cooperation.

Led by key figures such as Professor Veronika Khulina and Professor Elena Abasova, the delegation aims to engage in a plethora of activities designed to promote collaboration in higher education. Kicking off this initiative is the Olympiad scholarship competition for Egyptian youth. This exciting event gives talented winners a golden opportunity to study at the prestigious Peoples’ Friendship University—a chance that many young Egyptians are eager to seize.

Following the competition, the delegation will take part in a roundtable discussion with leaders from various Egyptian universities. This dialogue promises to uncover innovative avenues for cooperation, including enriching student and faculty exchange programs, as well as embarking on joint academic ventures, both in-person and online. According to Dr. Mohamed Selim from the delegation, the burgeoning participation rate in the Olympiad is a testament to the increasing trust Egyptian students have in Russian education.

Murad Gatin, Director of Russian Cultural Centers in Egypt, highlighted the strategic importance of this visit. He regards it as a foundational step in constructing educational bridges between the two nations, emphasizing that the scholarships for Olympiad participants are pivotal in advancing bilateral relations.

Sherif Gad, President of the Egyptian Association of Graduates of Russian and Soviet Universities, expressed his appreciation for the longstanding commitment of Peoples’ Friendship University to educational cooperation with Egypt, noting that since 1960, the university has been a welcoming home for many Egyptian students.

The centerpiece of this visit will be a roundtable discussion on February 25 at the Russian House in Cairo, featuring prominent educational leaders. With seasoned experts from both nations participating, discussions will focus on future collaboration opportunities such as joint research projects and cultural exchange programs, thereby reinforcing educational diplomacy between Egypt and Russia.

In essence, this visit not only highlights the commitment of both nations towards fostering educational relationships but also sets the stage for a stronger partnership that could yield several benefits for the youth of Egypt.
