Megawati Soekarnoputri to Meet Pope Francis at Children's Rights Summit in Vatican

In an inspiring turn of events, Indonesia’s fifth president, Megawati Soekarnoputri, is gearing up for a significant meeting with Pope Francis at the upcoming World Leaders’ Summit on Children’s Rights. This important gathering is set to take place on February 3 in the Vatican, where global leaders will unite to discuss and advocate for children’s rights across the world.

Ahmad Basarah, a member of Indonesia’s People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), emphasized the significance of this event by announcing Megawati’s anticipated dialogue with Pope Francis. This marks a notable occasion where influential leaders come together to spotlight vital issues affecting the youth.

Basarah also hinted at the possibility of Megawati meeting with Grand Imam Ahmed El-Tayeb of Al-Azhar University, underscoring the importance of this summit as a platform for meaningful conversations. “Both the Pope and the Grand Imam are globally respected figures. The summit committee is currently awaiting the Grand Imam’s confirmation of attendance,” he stated.

The World Leaders’ Summit promises a stellar lineup of attendees, including Queen Rania Al-Abdullah of Jordan, Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani, and Gambia’s Foreign Minister Mamadou Tangara, among others. Their collective presence amplifies the message of global unity in advocating for children’s rights.

As the daughter of Indonesia’s founding president, Soekarno, Megawati carries a rich legacy. During the summit, she will deliver a speech aimed at raising awareness about the urgent need for safeguarding children’s rights worldwide. Basarah noted, “Insights from Madam Megawati and other panelists are crucial in showcasing global support for this fundamental issue.”

Megawati recently arrived in Rome alongside her children, including Puan Maharani, the Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), highlighting the personal commitment they share towards fostering a better future for children. As the world watches, this summit marks a pivotal moment for collaborative efforts to ensure children everywhere receive the care and rights they deserve.
