Local Banker Crowned Paramount Queen: Celebrating Tradition and Leadership at 39!

In a grand and culturally rich ceremony, the Nkoranza Traditional Council in Ghana’s Bono East region proudly enstooled Celestina Saah Kontorh, a 39-year-old banker, as the new Queen Mother. Taking on the stool name Nana Yaa Sarpomaa III, she steps into a vital role that holds immense significance in the community’s leadership and development. This momentous event underscores the traditional hierarchies that continue to shape the identity and governance of many Ghanaian communities.

Nana Yaa Sarpomaa III is hailed from the esteemed Gyaapomu Family, known for its long-standing tradition of producing queen mothers. Her ascendance comes after the passing of the former Queen Mother, Nana Yaa Adutwuwaa Dudaa Kani, in 2022, marking a new chapter for the people of Nkoranza. Following a thoughtful selection process, she was nominated by the paramount chief, Nana Kwame Baffoe IV, and received full backing from the royal family and community leaders. According to Oheneba Agyei Baffoe, the Ankobeahene of the Nkoranza Traditional Council, her appointment is seen as a unifying force that will bolster efforts to bring development and peace to the region.

Born on October 22, 1986, Nana Yaa Sarpomaa III has a solid educational foundation, having attended Nkoranza St. Therese’s School and Mmofratro Girls in Kumasi. She holds a Higher National Diploma from Sunyani Technical University and a degree from Garden City University. Before stepping into her royal role, she was an accomplished professional at the National Investment Bank in Accra, where her expertise in banking and investments made her a valuable asset to the community.

The enstoolment ceremony heralded a message of hope and progress. Residents, including fellow queen mothers, expressed their enthusiasm and confidence in her vision. They believe that her partnership with the chief will spark a new era filled with growth and stability for Nkoranza. As investments in the region are encouraged – a call to action from local leaders – there is a palpable sense of optimism about the positive changes ahead.

In this pivotal moment, Nana Yaa Sarpomaa III not only embraces her new responsibilities but also symbolizes the strength and resilience of Ghanaian traditions, paving the way for a bright future in Nkoranza.
