On February 11, 2025, a significant development took place in the Minya Governorate of Egypt, as the Embassy of Japan introduced a new initiative aimed at improving healthcare services in the area. This initiative is part of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects, commonly referred to as the “KUSANONE” program, which focuses on enhancing the welfare of communities through various local projects.
During a formal signing ceremony, His Excellency Mr. IWAI Fumio, Ambassador-designate of Japan to Egypt, joined forces with Dr. Bahaa Youhanna, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Kings Sons Association for Comprehensive Development, to seal the partnership with a grant contract. This collaborative effort promises to provide around USD 64,500 to enhance the El Amal Medical Center—Minya’s sole medical facility. The funds will be used to procure essential medical equipment, allowing local residents easier access to vital and affordable medical examinations.
Ambassador Iwai expressed his enthusiasm for this initial partnership with the Kings Sons Association, hoping that the initiative will lead to substantial improvements in healthcare services for the people of Minya. In his remarks, Dr. Bahaa Youhanna expressed gratitude for Japan’s support, emphasizing that this project represents a commitment not just to healthcare but to the broader development goals of the region. He noted that the Kings Sons Association is dedicated to providing necessary services to the community and anticipates that this collaboration will pave the way for future projects between the association and the Japanese Embassy.
The KUSANONE project is not merely a financial contribution; it symbolizes Japan’s ongoing commitment to development cooperation. Since it began in 1994, this program has funded 181 projects throughout Egypt, amounting to over USD 11 million, and has partnered with 130 NGOs. The initiatives encompass a wide array of sectors, including education, healthcare, water and sanitation, vocational training, and women’s empowerment.
This latest collaboration highlights the importance of international partnerships in fostering local development and addressing essential community needs. With an improving healthcare system, the residents of Minya Governorate can look forward to better health outcomes and an enriched quality of life.
