“Revitalizing the City: A Commitment to Inclusive Urban Regeneration for All!”

In a significant move to enhance urban infrastructure, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu inaugurated a new network of roads in the Government Reserved Area (GRA) of Ikeja on January 9, 2025. This project, which includes five strategically located roads—Oba Dosumu Street, Oduduwa Way, Oduduwa Crescent, Sobo Arobiodu Street, and Sasegbon Streets—spans over 6 kilometers in length and promises to transform the local landscape.

The inauguration of these roads is not just about aesthetics; it’s a crucial element in the State’s broader urban regeneration agenda. Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that no part of Lagos will be overlooked in this ongoing development effort, ensuring that all residents benefit from quality infrastructure. The newly rehabilitated roads are designed to ease vehicular movement, significantly reduce traffic congestion, and improve overall interconnectivity. More importantly, they feature enhanced drainage systems to tackle the flooding issues that have historically affected the Ikeja area.

During the ceremony, Sanwo-Olu spoke passionately about the project’s anticipated impact on the local economy. He noted, “The rehabilitated roads and drainage systems will not only mitigate flooding but will also enhance safety and security, improve the aesthetics of the environment, and increase property values. This infrastructure is integral to fostering economic growth, contributing to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Lagos State.”

The event drew commendation from attendees, including former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, who praised Sanwo-Olu’s proactive governance and the tangible results his administration has achieved in transforming Ikeja into a modern urban center. Fayose’s remarks underscored the collaborative spirit of development in Lagos, urging continued enhancements for the benefit of all.

Engr. Olufemi Daramola, Special Adviser to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Infrastructure, elaborated on the project’s role in the State’s urban regeneration policy. He assured residents that these developments would significantly improve residents’ quality of life while strengthening the community’s economic framework.

This inauguration marks just the beginning of a series of planned infrastructure upgrades, with Sanwo-Olu set to announce further developments in the coming days. Residents of Ikeja are encouraged to take ownership of these new facilities and ensure their responsible use, solidifying a community-centered approach to urban development.

With these transformative projects taking shape, Lagos is poised to continue its march toward becoming a sustainable, economically vibrant metropolis. Stay tuned for more updates on ongoing developments across Nigeria.
