Aya Gold & Silver Inc. Launches Commercial Production at Zgounder Mine in Morocco: A Significant Step for the Region’s Mining Industry

Aya Gold & Silver Inc. has reached a major milestone with the commencement of commercial production at its 100%-owned Zgounder Mine in Morocco. This exciting development is a testament to the company’s dedication and the robust growth of the mining sector in the region. The new processing plant kicked off operations in November 2024, with the first silver pour achieved on November 27, culminating in an exciting transition to commercial production.

Over a remarkable 30-day period, the mill successfully processed 45,683 tonnes of ore, maintaining an impressive average of 84 tonnes per hour at a 75% operational availability rate. The efficiency of the operations surged between December 19 and 29, with an average throughput of 1,834 tonnes per day, peaking at a stunning 2,152 tonnes on December 27, all while improving availability to 86%. These numbers not only highlight the operational prowess of Aya Gold & Silver but also the potential for further growth within Morocco’s mining landscape.

Benoit La Salle, President and CEO of Aya, described the achievement as a “transformative milestone,” completed on budget and showcasing the commitment and hard work of Aya’s workforce and contractors. La Salle emphasized the importance of sustainability in their operations, proclaiming the company’s dedication to near-term decarbonization goals, which enhance both social responsibility and environmental stewardship in the mining industry.

Speaking on this occasion, La Salle noted, “We remain committed to our sustainability objectives, including our near-term decarbonization targets, as we continue with ramp-up activities. My deepest gratitude goes to everyone who made this achievement possible, especially our supportive shareholders.”

The journey toward this commercial production began with the construction of the processing plant in mid-2022, with the initial goal set for 2024. Aya is optimistic about scaling up to the mill’s full nameplate capacity by the first quarter of 2025. The Zgounder Mine currently employs over 600 full-time workers, exemplifying Aya’s commitment to local employment and the socio-economic development of the region.
