The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is stepping up its efforts to ensure that the education of children across all ages and levels in the region receives a much-needed boost. This commitment was emphasized by the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, during a heartwarming event held to honor schoolchildren who excelled at the 2024 National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST) in Abuja.

Dr. Mahmoud praised the outstanding performances of the students, stating that their success is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and a genuine passion for learning. “I am thrilled to host you today to recognize and reward your exceptional efforts in emerging as the best in the various events you competed in,” the Minister remarked, her pride evident in her words.

Represented by her Special Adviser on Social Development, Helen Zamani, Dr. Mahmoud emphasized the broader impact of such achievements. “The feat you have accomplished does not only make your families and schools proud; it serves as an inspiration for your peers, motivating them to also reach for excellence and greatness,” she added. The gesture of celebrating these young achievers highlights the importance of fostering a supportive environment for academic pursuits.

The event saw an engaging array of competitions, showcasing the diverse talents of children from several states. In the essay writing contest, students from Ekiti State claimed the top prize, followed closely by their counterparts from Lagos and Enugu. Meanwhile, Taraba State shone in the Cultural Quiz competition, securing first place, with Benue and Ekiti following in second and third.

Lagos also made waves with its students winning the Children’s Storytelling Competition, while Bayelsa stood out in the Children’s Arts and Crafts category, taking home the first position. Ogun State and Lagos rounded out the competition by securing second and third places, respectively.

As the FCTA continues to invest in education, events like these are pivotal in igniting enthusiasm in students and showcasing the rich cultural heritage and talents present in Nigeria. By fostering a competitive spirit and recognizing achievements, the FCTA is helping to build a foundation for future leaders, ensuring that the future of Nigeria remains promising.

This celebration is not just an event; it’s part of a larger narrative of cultivating talent and resilience among Nigeria’s youth. Let’s continue cheering for these remarkable students as they inspire others to reach for the stars!
