F. Murray Abraham to Star in Samuel Beckett’s Timeless Work at Irish Repertory Theatre
Celebrated stage and screen veteran F. Murray Abraham is set to grace the stage once again, this time in a powerful rendition of Samuel Beckett’s one-act monologue, Krapp’s Last Tape. The performance will be a part of a compelling triptych titled Beckett Briefs, brought to life by the renowned Irish Repertory Theatre. Previews are slated to begin on January 15, 2025, with the opening night scheduled for January 26. Theatergoers can look forward to this exquisite production running through March 9 at the Francis J. Greenburger Mainstage in New York.
F. Murray Abraham is no stranger to the Broadway spotlight. His illustrious career showcases a plethora of iconic performances, including celebrated roles in Angels in America, Mauritius, and the recent production, It’s Only a Play. Earlier this year, he captivated audiences in Boston alongside the talented Kristin Chenoweth in the Broadway-bound musical The Queen of Versailles. His exceptional talent has not gone unnoticed, with nominations for both an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his role in HBO’s award-winning series The White Lotus.
In Krapp’s Last Tape, Abraham takes on the role of an older man reflecting on his life through tape recordings made by his younger self, creating a poignant exploration of memory and identity. Notably, acclaimed actor Gary Oldman will also take on this challenging piece when he returns to the U.K. stage in April, promising an exciting theatrical season ahead.
The Beckett Briefs production will encompass a rich tapestry of life experiences, showcasing not only Krapp's Last Tape but also other short plays such as Not I and Play. While Sarah Street will shine in Not I, the cast of Play will feature the talented trio of Roger Dominic Casey, Kate Forbes, and Sarah Street.
This impressive production will be enhanced by the visionary scenic design of Charlie Corcoran, costume design by Orla Long, and lighting by Michael Gottlieb. The auditory experience will be crafted by sound designers M. Florian Staab and Tony Award winner Ryan Rumery, who brings original music that promises to elevate the emotional depth of the performance.
The excitement around Beckett’s works doesn’t stop here—later in 2025, fans can anticipate a stirring adaptation of one of Beckett’s most famous works, Waiting for Godot, featuring notable actors Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter.
Stay tuned for updates on this spectacular theater season, as the Irish Repertory Theatre continues to enrich the cultural landscape of New York City with extraordinary performances.
