Marriott International's Ambitious Plans for Belgrade's Luxury Scene: Ritz-Carlton Set to Open by 2027
In an exciting development for Serbia’s capital, Marriott International has revealed plans to establish a Ritz-Carlton hotel on the historic site of the former Hotel Jugoslavija, aiming for a grand opening by 2027. This ambitious project marks a substantial investment of €500 million (approximately US6 million) and signifies a transformative leap for Belgrade’s luxury hospitality and urban landscape.
The upcoming Ritz-Carlton will boast 193 elegantly appointed rooms alongside over 1,700 square meters of sophisticated event space, not to mention two high-end dining establishments to satiate even the most discerning palates. Nestled within a mixed-use complex, the hotel will also include a gleaming 42-story residential tower and a 34-story office tower, complemented by a marina and a picturesque promenade that will seamlessly connect Nikola Tesla Boulevard to the scenic Sava River.
Serbia’s Finance Minister, Siniša Mali, enthusiastically hailed this development as a beacon of the country’s swift progress. “Belgrade is undergoing a remarkable transformation,” said Mali, highlighting that the city is poised to emerge as a vibrant hub for modern infrastructure and tourism. The 2027 Specialized Expo is anticipated to showcase Belgrade’s growth, drawing millions of visitors and presenting an incredible opportunity to spotlight its burgeoning tourism industry.
The project’s visionary, Ivan Bošnjak, CEO of Millenium Team, saw this initiative as an investment in Serbia’s promising future. “We are not just building a hotel; we are enhancing tourism, culture, and economic growth in Belgrade,” he stated. The Ritz-Carlton will undoubtedly solidify Belgrade’s status on the global luxury map, representing a significant milestone in the region’s ongoing development.
The official signing ceremony for this landmark project took place on November 27 at the luxurious St. Regis Hotel in Belgrade Waterfront. The event brought together key figures from the Serbian government, Marriott International, the US Embassy, and leaders in business and tourism, all eager to witness the bright future that awaits Belgrade.
This announcement is part of Marriott’s strategic expansion in the region, which recently saw the launch of the St. Regis hotel at Belgrade Waterfront. Furthermore, the Moxy Hotels brand is also gearing up to open its second location in the city by late 2025, enhancing the hospitality offerings alongside existing properties like the Courtyard hotel in Belgrade and the Sheraton hotel in Novi Sad.
