In a heartwarming display of community spirit, employees from MTC, in partnership with the MVA Fund and Namib Mills, have generously donated over 250 sleeping mattresses and essential food supplies to Cocoma Primary School located in the Ndiyona circuit of Namibia’s Kavango East Region. This initiative is part of MTC Care, an employee-driven project dedicated to uplifting communities through voluntary contributions that directly impact those in need.
Elisabeth Massamba, a spokesperson for MTC, highlighted the critical role that restful sleep plays in the academic success of students. She expressed that providing comfortable mattresses for the school’s hostel is a significant step towards ensuring that learners have a proper environment conducive to rest and study. “It’s tough to talk about educational equality if the facilities meant for student safety and rest are lacking,” she stated, reaffirming MTC’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure.
The donation event was marked by gratitude from Cocoma Primary’s principal, Moses Ndumba, who articulated the positive transformation these contributions will bring. Many students previously had to endure uncomfortable sleeping conditions, some even going without proper bedding. “We are incredibly thankful for the support we have received today. These mattresses will greatly enhance the comfort of our learners, allowing them to get the rest they need to thrive academically,” Ndumba emphasized.
The MTC Care initiative is not just a one-off event; it has a rich history of addressing various community challenges. Previous efforts include supplying sanitary pads to schoolgirls in Koes, providing food for the Men on the Side of the Road in Windhoek, and assisting leprosy patients in Omashare, showcasing a diverse range of humanitarian assistance.
As the impact of this generous donation unfolds, it’s clear that initiatives like MTC Care not only improve the living conditions of those in need but also help foster a culture of community support and collective responsibility. Such contributions are a beacon of hope for both students and the wider community in Namibia, signifying a commitment to nurture and uplift future generations.
