Morocco Welcomes Almost 15 Million Tourists in Just 10 Months—A Remarkable Travel Surge!

Morocco's Tourism on the Rise: A Booming Destination for Travelers

By Africazine

Morocco, a jewel of North Africa, is basking in a tourism renaissance as the country welcomed a staggering 14.6 million tourists by October 2023. According to Fatim-Zahra Ammor, Morocco’s Minister of Tourism, this represents a remarkable 19% increase from last year, with an impressive 30% surge noted just in October alone. This growth reflects the nation’s ambitious 2023-2026 tourism roadmap, which aims to enhance the country’s standing as a prime destination for both international and local travelers.

The influx of visitors includes a 22% rise in foreign tourists and a 16% increase in Moroccans living abroad, highlighting the country’s appeal across various demographics. This revitalization comes at a perfect time, as Morocco continues to open its arms to the world, showcasing its rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning landscapes.

Ammor shared insights during the signing of a pivotal agreement between Morocco’s National Tourism Office (ONMT) and Ryanair, which aims to bolster air connectivity by launching new routes between Dakhla and key Spanish cities like Madrid and Lanzarote. With plans to provide 10 million seats to Morocco by 2027—an ambitious goal that includes 5.6 million seats this year alone, a 37% increase over last year—this partnership signifies a forward-thinking approach to enhance tourism infrastructure.

Dakhla, in particular, is gaining recognition as a premium water sports destination, boasting a 26% growth in overnight stays as of September. With a current 40% hotel occupancy rate, the new air routes set to launch in January will add 16,000 seats, further amplifying Dakhla’s appeal to adventure-seekers and beach enthusiasts alike.

Morocco’s government has set its sights high, aspiring to attract 15 million tourists by the end of this year, with goals of 17 million by 2026 and an ambitious target of 26 million by 2030. As global travelers seek new adventures, Morocco’s vibrant culture, enchanting landscapes, and warm hospitality position it as an ideal choice for wanderlust-driven individuals and families.

As this North African nation continues to stride forward, it sets an inspiring example of resilience and growth in the tourism sector. With strategic partnerships and a clear vision for the future, Morocco is not just welcoming tourists—it’s ready to create lasting memories for all who visit.
