Divundu Prepares for Exciting Growth with Two New Townships on the Horizon!

In a progressive move aimed at enhancing community infrastructure, the Divundu Village Council has officially approved the creation of two new townships, aptly named Extensions Four and Five. This significant decision reflects the council’s commitment to fostering sustainable development in the region during the current fiscal year.

Extension Four, in particular, is a vital step forward for those residents who were displaced to pave the way for the innovative Namibia Berries Farm. Athanasius Maghumbo, the Chief Executive Officer of Divundu, enthusiastically shared that this project has already begun to bear fruit—quite literally! The farm not only produces high-quality berries but has also created substantial job opportunities within the community. Currently, around 70 permanent employees and 200 seasonal workers are part of the workforce, providing a reliable source of income that helps retain local youth in the area. Previously, many young individuals felt compelled to migrate to Aussenkehr in search of seasonal work on grape farms. With the establishment of the Namibia Berries Farm, they can now find employment closer to home, positively impacting the local economy and family structures.

Extension Five is designed with low-income earners in mind. Maghumbo emphasized the importance of this community segment, which includes hardworking individuals employed in various local services, such as retail and security positions. By integrating this group into the broader township, the council aims to prevent socio-economic segregation and promote inclusivity. He stated, “We cannot allow them to form a separate township, as this would create challenges.” This thoughtful approach underscores the village’s commitment to cohesive community development.

Moreover, Divundu is also making strides in enhancing local amenities. A new shopping center is rapidly approaching completion, promising to provide essential services such as banking and retail shops. This addition will undoubtedly revitalize the local economy, offering residents greater access to goods and services without having to travel far from home.

As Divundu Village embarks on this journey of development, it is poised to serve as a model for other communities seeking to enhance their infrastructure while prioritizing the needs of all residents. With these exciting changes on the horizon, Divundu is not just growing; it’s thriving.
