“Revolutionizing Waste Solutions: New Expansion for Rent-A-Drum Following Exciting Acquisition!”

Séché Environnement Expands Reach with Rent-A-Drum Acquisition in Namibia

In an exciting development for the waste management sector, Séché Environnement, a prominent French company specializing in environmental services, has successfully acquired Rent-A-Drum, a Namibian waste management company. The details surrounding the acquisition remain undisclosed, but this strategic move is set to enhance Séché’s presence in Southern Africa, a region recognized for its burgeoning economic potential and stringent environmental regulations.

Anna Jaegy, Deputy Director of Communications at Séché, shared insights on the acquisition, emphasizing how it aligns with the company’s broader objectives in Southern Africa. “The incorporation of Rent-A-Drum into our operations signifies a major step forward. This region is not just attractive; it’s rapidly evolving with increasing environmental demands that we are well-equipped to meet,” Jaegy noted. The acquisition also includes Spill Tech, another subsidiary, further expanding their suite of services.

The integration of Rent-A-Drum means that local industrial companies will benefit from Séché’s extensive expertise in hazardous waste management. The company plans to provide innovative and comprehensive solutions across several major Namibian cities, focusing on waste management that prioritizes a circular economy approach. This means not just disposing of waste, but transforming it into a resource for other applications, thus contributing to sustainability and environmental protection.

Discussions have arisen regarding management changes following the founder of Rent-A-Drum, Gys Louw, stepping down from his position as CEO to become the Chairman of the Board. However, Anna Jaegy reassured stakeholders that the current management team would remain intact. “The existing leadership will collaborate with Séché to further develop our operations in Namibia, ensuring we maintain our dedication to environmental values while pursuing growth strategies focused on recovery and sustainability,” she explained.

Since acquiring Rent-A-Drum in August 2023, Séché has officially begun integrating the Namibian operations into its financial portfolio as of January 1, 2024. This acquisition marks a significant milestone for Séché, which employs over 6,100 people across 120 locations worldwide, with around 50 sites in France alone. The company reported impressive revenues exceeding €1 billion in 2023, with nearly 26% of that coming from international markets.

As Séché Environnement embarks on this new chapter with Rent-A-Drum, it underscores a commitment not only to business growth but also to environmental stewardship—a critical factor in today’s corporate landscape. This development positions both companies to play a vital role in enhancing sustainable practices within Namibia and beyond.
