“FCTA Commits to Upholding Educational Excellence: A Pledge for Quality Learning”

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration is stepping up to reinforce its commitment to high educational standards across schools in the region. This initiative is pivotal as the demand for quality education continues to rise among students and parents alike in Abuja.

Recently, Dr. Neemat Abdulrahim, the Director of the FCT Education Resource Centre, made an impactful visit to the Gifted School in Gwagwalada, where she observed the screening tests for 466 hopeful candidates vying for admission. The excitement and anticipation in the air were palpable as students from various public and private institutions gathered to showcase their academic prowess.

The screening test serves as a crucial filter for admission into the esteemed school, aiming to identify the brightest talents from the FCT. Dr. Abdulrahim highlighted that candidates from public schools need to secure a remarkable eight ‘A’s in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE), while those from private schools are required to achieve an impressive nine ‘A’s. This selective process underscores the FCT’s commitment to nurturing gifted students who will excel in their future academic endeavors.

“The objective of the screening is to thoroughly evaluate the candidates and ensure that only those with exceptional grades and capabilities gain admission to the Gifted School,” Dr. Abdulrahim explained. The screening not only assesses previous academic performance but also tests the candidates’ overall aptitude, making it a rigorous process tailored to select the best of the best.

In this competitive environment, where only 300 spots are available for the 466 candidates who completed the screening, the pressure is on. To qualify for consideration, students must achieve an average score of 70 percent, with the cut-off point being determined by the collective performance of applicants each academic year.

The approach taken by the FCT Administration reflects a broader commitment to educational excellence, ensuring that the region remains a beacon of quality learning in Nigeria. With these developments, the future looks promising for gifted students in Abuja, who will benefit from an environment that not only recognizes their potential but actively facilitates their growth.

As the world increasingly recognizes the importance of tailored educational paths for gifted youth, the FCT’s initiative could serve as a model for other regions in Africa and beyond.
