In a heartwarming display of community support, Namibia’s water utility, NamWater, has stepped up to assist local schools in the Kavango East Region by donating essential stationery to at least 15 educational institutions. This initiative aims to bridge the gap in teaching and learning materials, ultimately enhancing students’ academic performance and fostering a brighter future for the region’s youth.
Among the schools receiving this generous contribution are Likwaterera Senior Primary School, Kambowo Junior Primary School, Cove Junior Primary School, Rebeca Kambundu Primary School, and several others. Each of these schools will benefit greatly from the support as it provides a much-needed resource to help alleviate the challenges faced by both students and teachers in the region.
Abraham Nehemia, the Chief Executive Officer of NamWater, expressed his optimism regarding this initiative, underscoring the transformative power of education. “The statistics from the Namibia multidimensional poverty index reveal that our rural areas are in great need, with a poverty index rate of 59.03 percent. This profoundly affects the lives of many families, particularly regarding the education of our children. At NamWater, we firmly believe in the pivotal role that education plays in shaping the future of our society,” Nehemia stated.
To further support education in the region, NamWater has committed to a comprehensive plan over the next five years, which includes not only the provision of textbooks and stationery but also support for ICT and infrastructure development, psychological assistance, school uniforms, and extracurricular activities. This multi-faceted approach aims to create a nurturing environment where students can thrive academically and personally.
Efraim Chakula, the principal of Likwaterera Senior Primary School, highlighted the impactful nature of this support. “The impact of this support stretches far beyond our immediate needs. When children do not have to worry about basic necessities like meals or school supplies, they can focus on what truly matters: their education. Concentration in class or effective studying becomes far more achievable when such worries are lifted,” he explained.
Recognizing the significance of NamWater’s donation, Asser Kandere, the Deputy Director of Education for the Kavango East Region, commended the initiative. “In an age where education is more vital than ever, this donation can make a world of difference. It will play a crucial role in nurturing curiosity, enhancing creativity, and fostering a love for learning among our students.”
This inspirational effort by NamWater exemplifies the transformative power of community involvement in education, demonstrating the impact that corporate social responsibility can have on local communities. As Namibia continues to address educational challenges, initiatives like this highlight the importance of collaboration for a brighter future.
