Celebrating 100 Years: A Special Naturalization Ceremony and Heartfelt Tributes at the Carter Center

ATLANTA – Tuesday was a monumental day at The Carter Center as the world gathered to celebrate the 100th birthday of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter. This occasion was made even more special with the naturalization ceremony where 100 new citizens took their oath in Carter’s hometown of Plains, Georgia, marking a strong symbolic connection between honoring the former president and welcoming new Americans into the community.

Carter, who is celebrated not just for his presidency but for his decades-long commitment to humanitarian causes, has become a beacon of kindness and compassion. As attendees wandered through The Carter Center, they took the opportunity to write heartfelt birthday wishes, truly paying homage to a leader whose legacy is felt far beyond the walls of politics.

Visitors were thrilled at the admission fee to the center, an initiative created to honor the centenarian’s milestone birthday. “I think Jimmy Carter is a wonderful, godly man,” expressed visitor Brooke Ice. “He leaves such a legacy in this country to be kind.” This sentiment was echoed throughout the event, with many reflecting on Carter’s significant contributions to global health and peace.

Among those present were John and Sean McDonald, who emphasized Carter’s incredible impact on eradicating diseases like guinea worm disease through his foundation’s collaborative efforts. “From millions infected down to single digits in just a few decades is quite an achievement,” Sean McDonald noted, highlighting the importance of Carter’s ongoing mission of alleviating human suffering.

Paige Alexander, CEO of The Carter Center, shared her reflections on his extraordinary life. “He served only eight years in public office, yet he spent another 40 years committed to giving back—not just to Americans, but to the entire world,” she stated. As the day closed, the audience pondered what it truly means to celebrate longevity with purpose.

This significant occasion allows us to appreciate how one man’s vision and actions can inspire global change. As we celebrate President Carter’s legacy, may we continue to follow in his footsteps and strive to make the world a better place for all.
