“New N Million Pipeline Set to Transform Water Supply in Katima Mulilo!”

NamWater Invests N.56 Million to Revitalize Water Infrastructure in Katima Mulilo

In a significant boost to infrastructure development, NamWater has committed N.56 million to enhance the water supply in Katima Mulilo through a much-needed pipeline replacement project. This initiative aims to tackle the pressing water shortages faced by the town, a challenge that has become increasingly crucial as Katima Mulilo experiences remarkable population growth.

A Growing Community's Water Needs

Over the past few decades, Katima Mulilo has transformed from a small town with a population of approximately 8,000 to a bustling community surpassing 45,000 residents. As the demand for water continues to surge, the original pipeline, installed back in 1979, has struggled to keep pace. On many occasions, residents and businesses alike have faced disruptions in their water supply due to frequent breakdowns caused by the aging infrastructure.

Introducing Modern Solutions

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, NamWater’s CEO, Abraham Nehemia, emphasized the importance of this project not just as a remedy for immediate needs, but as a vital step toward ensuring sustainable growth for the region. The newly designed pipeline, constructed from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), boasts an impressive lifespan of 50 to 100 years and has the capacity to deliver 1,200 cubic meters of water per hour.

“This project is a key component of NamWater’s strategy to provide reliable water to all Namibians. We are not only addressing the town’s critical water needs but are also setting the stage for future development and prosperity in the region,” Nehemia stated.

Supporting Local Economy and Expertise

Moreover, this initiative has had a positive impact on the local economy. The pipeline replacement has generated employment for 26 Namibians and utilized local contractors and materials, thereby reinforcing the collective capability of the community. With a commitment to harnessing local talent, NamWater showcases that Namibia is well-equipped to present solutions to its infrastructure challenges independently.

“The success of this project demonstrates our in-house expertise and capacity to deliver world-class infrastructure by using Namibian professionals. It’s about building resilience and national capability while providing essential services to our communities,” Nehemia added.

Beyond Katima Mulilo, the new pipeline will extend water services to surrounding areas, including Sibbinda, Linyanti, and Bukalo, ensuring that more residents have access to reliable water.

In conclusion, NamWater’s investment in Katima Mulilo is not only a testament to their dedication to improving infrastructure but also a powerful affirmation of Namibia’s growth and potential on the continental stage. As the country continues to evolve, initiatives like these pave the way for a brighter, more sustainable future.
