Muriel Dube Takes the Helm: New Leadership Shines at Sasol!

Sasol, the major South African energy and chemical company, has appointed Muriel Dube as its new chairman of the board, effective from the end of last week. This strategic move underscores Sasol’s commitment to advancing a sustainable business model and preparing for an environmentally-conscious future. Dube, who has been an integral part of the Sasol board as an independent non-executive director since 2018, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this critical leadership role.

With an impressive academic background, including a Master of Science in Environmental Change and Management from the prestigious University of Oxford, Dube is well-equipped to steer Sasol towards sustainability. She also holds degrees in BA Human Sciences and BA Honours in Politics. Her qualifications are complemented by an extensive career in sustainability, finance, and leadership roles, making her an invaluable asset to the company. Previously, Dube served as chief negotiator for the South African government in climate negotiations relating to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, showcasing her profound commitment to environmental advocacy.

Dube’s diverse career includes significant positions such as group commercial director at Bidvest Group and chief executive of Nozala Investments. Currently, she also serves as a non-executive director at the UK Infrastructure Bank, proving her versatility and influence in various sectors. Sasol expressed confidence in her ability to guide the company through its ongoing transition towards a green economy, emphasizing the need for strong leadership in today’s rapidly evolving energy landscape.

Her appointment comes at a pivotal time for Sasol as it seeks to make impactful strides in environmental sustainability. Alongside Dube, Dr. Martina Flöel has been named as the company’s new Lead Independent Director. This leadership transition signals Sasol’s dedication to governance excellence as it navigates the complexities of modern energy demands while prioritizing sustainability.

“It is an honor to take on this role at such an essential time for Sasol, and I am eager to work with my fellow directors to shape our collective future,” Dube stated. As global energy markets continue to evolve, Sasol remains at the forefront, aiming to balance profitability with social and environmental responsibility.

With Dube’s leadership, Sasol seems poised to embrace an innovative future that aligns with global sustainability goals, making it an organization to watch in the dynamic energy sector.
