Leader of the Republic Lands in New York for Key Participation at the UN General Assembly!

On September 21st, Mauritania’s President, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, touched down in New York City to represent his nation at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly. This annual gathering of world leaders is renowned for its focus on addressing pressing global issues and fostering international collaboration—a platform that President Ghazouani aims to leverage for Mauritania’s growth and development.

Upon his arrival, he was greeted warmly by HE Mr. Sidi Ould Mohamed Laghdaf, the Mauritanian Ambassador to the United Nations, along with staff from the country’s diplomatic mission. Such welcoming ceremonies underscore the significance of international diplomacy and the vital role that strong leadership plays in global dialogue.

Accompanying President Ghazouani is a diverse and experienced delegation, well-equipped to tackle the complex challenges on the agenda. Key figures in this group include Mr. Nani Ould Chrougha, Minister in charge of the President’s Cabinet, and Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad. Their expertise will prove essential as they engage with other nations on topics ranging from economic cooperation to environmental sustainability.

Additional members of the delegation include Mr. Sid’Ahmed Ould Bouh, the Minister of Economy and Finance, who will discuss opportunities for investment and economic partnerships that can stimulate growth in Mauritania. Meanwhile, Ms. Messouda Mint Baham Ould Mohamed Laghdaf, the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, is likely to focus on climate change, promoting Mauritania as a proactive participant in global environmental initiatives.

The presence of multiple ambassadors within the delegation—such as Ms. Cisse Mint Cheikh Ould Boida in Washington and Ms. Khadijetou Mbareck Fall in Addis Ababa—highlights Mauritania’s strategic diplomatic connections and its commitment to fostering cooperative relations across the African continent and beyond.

As President Ghazouani engages with a variety of world leaders and discussions at the UN, the focus will likely remain on collaborative solutions to enhance regional stability, development, and sustainability, reinforcing Mauritania’s position as a pivotal player in African affairs.
