Youssef Mohamed Highlights Egypt’s Commitment to Sustainable Energy During Site Visit to North West Sidi Ghazi Development

In an exciting initiative to bolster collaboration with on-ground teams, Youssef Mohamed, the Chairman of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), recently conducted a significant site visit to the North West Sidi Ghazi field development project located in the Nile Delta region. Accompanying him were key figures from the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, including Undersecretaries Engineer Ahmed Mustafa (Production) and Dr. Samir Raslan (Exploration and Agreements), as well as Samah Sabry, Vice President and Regional Director of Wintershall Dea.

The primary purpose of this visit was to assess the progress on the Central Processing Unit (CPU) development, which has been a pivotal project successfully completed by the joint venture Desouk Petroleum (Desouko) as of late August. This achievement reflects the dedication and expertise within Egypt’s energy sector.

During the site tour, Engineer Youssef Mohamed praised Desouk Petroleum, recognizing it as a “distinguished model” amongst joint ventures. He highlighted how the enhanced production from this field is set to significantly boost gas and condensate output rates, which are crucial for the nation’s energy landscape. Samah Sabry echoed this sentiment, stressing Wintershall Dea’s commitment to supporting production enhancements, which is imperative for advancing Egypt’s overall petroleum performance and aspiring towards a sustainable energy future.

The CPU development project kicked off in December 2022, with a collaborative effort from Enppi and Petrojet, featuring an investment of around million. This initiative is particularly noteworthy as it strictly adheres to emission reduction principles while enhancing the operational capacity of the facility.

The visit also included other high-profile attendees, such as Engineer Mohamed Rushdi, EGAS Vice President of Production, and Dr. Abdel Hamid El-Gweili, Vice President of Agreements and Exploration. Their participation brought a wealth of expertise to discussions emphasizing the significance of expediting development processes while maintaining rigorous safety, health, and environmental standards.

The event highlighted Egypt’s strategic focus on sustainable practices within its energy sector, showcasing an unwavering commitment to safe and environmentally conscious operations that not only benefit the economy but also set a precedent for responsible energy production in Africa.

As Egypt continues to enhance its energy capabilities, this proactive approach will undoubtedly have positive implications for the future of the African energy landscape, setting a shining example for other nations in the region.
