Exciting News: Gauteng’s 2025 School Placement Kicks Off This Monday!

Gauteng Education Department Ready to Place All Learners Amid Growing Capacity Challenges

As the Gauteng Education Department gears up for its placement process starting Monday, parents can breathe a sigh of relief. The department has assured families that every learner who applied during this year’s online admission period will secure a spot in the public education system.

The Gauteng Education MEC, Matome Chiloane, is actively engaging with the media to detail the department’s preparations for accommodating incoming Grade 1 and 8 students for the upcoming academic year. The online application system, launched in July and closed in mid-August, has seen a significant number of applicants eager to join the province’s public schools.

In response to growing enrollment numbers, Chiloane emphasized that the department has implemented robust contingency plans to ensure no learner is left without a classroom. “We have built a lot of classrooms to increase capacity,” he stated, highlighting the department’s proactive measures. To further support this initiative, temporary and mobile classrooms are also being introduced, although Chiloane acknowledged a preference for more permanent solutions. “While these options are not ideal, they are a necessary interim measure as we expand our facilities.”

Moreover, Chiloane shared his optimism about the future of education in Gauteng, revealing ambitious targets for new school constructions. “In the next two to three years, the impact of our efforts in easing the pressure on classrooms will be significant,” he asserted, pointing toward a brighter educational landscape for the province.

The Gauteng Education Department is committed not only to managing immediate needs but also to fostering a sustainable educational environment. Parents can look forward to a smoother transition for their children into the learning ecosystem as these initiatives unfold.
