Lagos State Empowers Young Eco-Warriors at the Eco Explorers Bootcamp
In a bid to nurture a generation of environmentally conscious citizens, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), in collaboration with the Lagos State Parks and Garden Agency, hosted the engaging ‘Eco Explorers Bootcamp’ on Saturday. This innovative initiative took place at the scenic Dr. Oluyomi Abayomi Finnih Park located near Opebi Link Bridge, drawing a spirited group of young participants eager to learn about the importance of environmental stewardship.
The primary objective of this one-day boot camp was to inspire children to form a meaningful connection with nature while equipping them with practical skills in sustainable environmental practices. With engaging activities and hands-on learning, the event aimed to instill a sense of responsibility towards the environment that these young minds will carry into their adult lives.
Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, the General Manager of LASEPA, emphasized the crucial role that education plays in environmental advocacy. “We believe that teaching children about the environment today will empower them to transmit that knowledge to their peers and families,” he remarked. His commitment to public awareness extended to various environmental issues, such as combatting air and water pollution, and maintaining sustainable practices across the state.
Adebowale Tolulope, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Environmental Protection, highlighted the significance of this program. “Our focus today is on cultivating responsible citizens who will be equipped to make decisions that support the environment,” she stated. This program serves as an early introduction to essential practices aimed at mitigating climate change and global warming, fostering a culture of sustainability among the youth.
During the boot camp, children participated in interactive sessions where they learned about protecting wildlife and recycling waste materials. By engaging in practical activities—such as crafting from recycled products—they left with new skills and a renewed commitment to environmental care.
This initiative is a wonderful example of how community programs can inspire the younger generation to become proactive in environmental conservation efforts. With events like these, Lagos is not just creating awareness but actively shaping future advocates for a sustainable planet.
With its commitment to environmental education and protection, Lagos is sure to foster a greener future. Let’s celebrate this step towards empowering young eco-warriors and encourage similar initiatives across #Nigeria and beyond.
