Makala Presses Contractor to Fast-Track Completion of New Hospital Project

Mbagala Rangitatu Hospital Construction Progress Ignites Community Hope in Dar es Salaam

In a significant development for healthcare in Dar es Salaam, Amos Makala, the CCM Secretary for Ideology, Publicity, and Training, recently encouraged the contractor behind the Mbagala Rangitatu Hospital project to expedite the construction process. With the hospital projected to cost approximately 10.8 billion TZS, Makala’s visit to the site was a timely reminder of the pressing healthcare needs in the bustling Mbagala community.

During his inspection, Makala urged Group Six International Ltd to complete the six-storey facility by June 2023, especially with notable health events planned for October. His personal connection to the project is profound—having participated in the initial planning stages during his tenure as the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Makala has ardently advocated for a healthcare solution that meets the needs of the area’s substantial population.

In a revealing statement, he identified the current challenges faced by residents, primarily the lengthy journeys to the Temeke Regional Referral Hospital. “Mbagala has a large population, and we recognized the importance of building a hospital closer to home,” he noted, emphasizing the long-overdue need for accessible medical services in the region.

The new Mbagala Rangitatu Hospital is poised to serve a projected 438,141 residents, bringing much-needed relief to the healthcare system. Temeke Municipal Medical Officer Dr. Jonas Lulandala shared exciting insights into the hospital’s capabilities, highlighting that it will employ 235 permanent staff and an additional 55 contractual workers. With a patient admission capacity of 165, the facility is expected to offer specialized services, including surgeries that could cater to 7-14 patients daily, and comprehensive maternity care for 30-40 women.

Funding for the hospital has been a collaborative effort, with 2.4 billion TZS coming from the Temeke District Council and 2 billion TZS from the national government. Local Mbagala MP Abdallah Chaurembo expressed gratitude for the governmental support, acknowledging the transformational potential of this hospital for the community: “We are very thankful to the government for facilitating the start of this vital project.”

The completion of Mbagala Rangitatu Hospital isn’t just a construction project; it represents a beacon of hope for health equity in the region. As the local community eagerly awaits the opening of its doors, the project stands as a testament to the commitment to improving healthcare access for all, fostering a healthier, thriving Mbagala.
