Senior Brand Manager Goldberg- Mr. Kunle Aroyehun and Senior Brand Manager Life Continental -Chima Dim
Official partners, Goldberg Lager Beer, Life Continental Beer and Zagg Energy Malt Drink have been solidly behind the Super Eagles since they kicked off their 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign in Ivory Coast with a 1-1 draw with Equatorial Guinea on January 14, 2024.
While reiterating their maximum support for the Super Eagles, these Nigerian Breweries brands are simultaneously keeping fans engaged and rewarding their passionate support as the team looks to make Nigerians proud again by achieving success in Ivory Coast.
Nigeria’s premium beer has also made the AFCON 2023 an unforgettable experience for football lovers across the country, thanks to the epic partnership of Goldberg and some other brands of Nigerian Breweries Plc.
From electrifying viewing centres to fantasy league battles and a shower of prizes, the tournament has been a non-stop celebration for fans and loyal Nigerian Breweries Plc customers as we believe that the Super Eagles can indeed “do it again”.
On every match day, Goldberg’s official viewing centres like Whispers Bar in Abeokuta, Ogun state and Farm City in Lekki, Lagos have seen passionate football fans and consumers enjoy the best moments of the matches.
Goldberg’s #OmoluabiGameOn and #NaijaGameOn campaigns buzz with pre-match predictions have enjoyed massive views and engagement from enthusiastic fans and consumers as we were also there with our full support when the Super Eagles defeated the AFCON 2023 host nation, Ivory Coast and Guinea Bissau with a similar score of 1-0 to round of the group stage.
Nigeria finished second behind Equatorial Guinea in Group A and as a result met the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the second round of the competition last Saturday but with Goldberg’s full support as the official beer partner of the Super Eagles, the team soared above their opponents by emerging 2-0 winners with a brace from Atalanta winger, Ademola Lookman.
For Life Continental, the official beer of the Super Eagles, it is bringing the taste of victory to fans across the country. With special viewing events and exciting in-bar activations, Life is ensuring that every fan feels the electrifying atmosphere of the game, raising a glass (or two) to their favorite team.

ZAGG, known for its vibrant energy drinks, has transformed into a symbol of passionate support for the Super Eagles. The Energy Drink with Malt [NE1] is ensuring the Eagles feel the full force of the nation’s support behind them.
Meanwhile, history could be about to repeat itself, especially after the Super Eagles not only avoided defeat against Ivory Coast but actually went ahead to beat the Elephants. The Eagles won the AFCON trophy at Nigeria 1980, Tunisia 1994 and South Africa 2013 and in each of the three times they emerged as champions, they played Ivory Coast, avoiding defeat in all.
Both countries first clashed at the AFCON when Nigeria hosted in 1980. The tie at the National Stadium, Surulere ended 0-0 and it was Nigeria’s second game (as it was on Thursday, January 18, 2024).
The Eagles had to defeat Egypt in their third match to qualify for the semi-finals in which they pipped Morocco 1-0 to make progress and eventually win the trophy for the first time in history.
In 1994, both teams clashed in the semi-finals at the Stade El Menzah in Tunis. It ended in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw, with petite Michel Bassole scoring for the Ivorians while the late Rashidi Yekini and Benedict Iroha netted for Nigeria.
Yekini scored the winning penalty for the Eagles and Nigeria notched her second AFCON crown by defeating Zambia 2-1 in the final with former Barcelona attacker, Emmanuel Amuneke netting a brace.
Back in the year 2013, on their way to a third triumph, the Eagles edged the Elephants 2-1 in a quarter-final like no other at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg, South Africa. Emmanuel Emenike and Sunday Mba scored for Nigeria.
With Nigeria putting an end its four-game winless run by defeating Ivory Coast 1-0, having drawn 1-1 with both Lesotho and Zimbabwe in two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, lost 2-0 to Guinea in a friendly encounter before the start of AFCON 2023 and drawn 1-1 with Equatorial Guinea to actually be on a four-game unbeaten run of theirs, Goldberg is ready to back the Super Eagles all the way to achieving success come February 11, 2024 when the final of the tournament will be played.
However, back to the business at hand, Goldberg will not relent on its support for the Super Eagles even as they will trade tackles against the Palancas Negras of Angola in the quarter-final of the competition come Friday, February 2, 2024 as they aim to win their fourth AFCON title and their very first since the year 2013.
2013 African Cup of Nations winner, Kenneth Omeruo, has meanwhile, shown the true Nigerian spirit which Goldberg is all about by saying that the Super Eagles have little or no time for long speeches and will prefer to do the talking on the turf of the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny against Angola.
The experienced defender is confident that Angola will bite the dust by the final blast of the referee’s whistle just like Goldberg believes. “We have absolutely no need to go into back-and-forth chatter with any team. The Super Eagles are in Cote d’Ivoire for serious business,” Omeruo said.
“We have not played Angola for a long time but I remember we played them in 2012 in a friendly and it ended in a draw. I have also read of how previous encounters between the two countries have been quite close.
“There is no possibility of Friday’s match ending in a draw, a winner must emerge. So much talk has been going on. Our collective resolve is to do the talking on the pitch. The Nigeria Spirit trumps all.”
Meanwhile, Portfolio Manager – Mainstream Brands, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Olaoluwa Babalola, said the Goldberg Lager Beer brand is not just a sponsor but should be seen as a champion of the Nigerian spirit.
“The Super Eagles embody our resilience and passion. We are proud to be part of their journey and we are very positive they will make us all proud!,” Babalola said while displaying the true Nigerian spirit.
As the excitement reaches a fever pitch with the quarter-finals of the competition with the Super Eagles set to battle Angola for a place in the last four, Goldberg is ready to amplify the cheers, fuel the passion and witness history in the making.
For many, AFCON 2023 is not just about goals and glory because for Nigerian fans, it is a whirlwind of excitement, fuelled by the potent Nigerian Breweries Plc brand which will do everything humanly possible to lead the Super Eagles all the way to AFCON 2023 glory.
