‘Salah did not want to travel to England’

Egypt national team doctor Mohamed Abou El-Ela has revealed that Mohamed Salah wanted to remain in the Ivory Coast while nursing a hamstring injury during the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Salah suffered a hamstring injury during the Pharaohs’ 2-2 stalemate with Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations on the 18th of January and hasn’t featured for his nation since then.

It was reported that Salah would return to Liverpool after Egypt’s tie with Cape Verde to seek treatment for his hamstring. Now though, according to the Pharaohs team doctor, the 31-year-old wanted to remain in Côte d’Ivoire after Jurgen Klopp revealed the extent of his injury.

“Our agreement with Liverpool was made two days ago, and it was to announce the news only after the Cape Verde match,” Abou El-Ela said, as per King Fut.

“But Jurgen Klopp was the one who announced it early, and Salah himself did not want to travel. If he wanted to, he would have left from the first day.

“When will Mohamed Salah return from his injury after receiving treatment in Liverpool? I cannot determine that because muscle injuries depend on daily improvement.

“But I can say that we have worked well with Salah for four days, and the player has shown good improvement to the best of his ability.”
