Osimhen, who played a pivotal role, winning the penalty that sealed the victory, emphasized the need for the team to stay focused and build on this success.
Speaking at the post-match conference, the 25 year-old acknowledged the challenging nature of the game, stating, “It feels good. Not an easy game, of course. We knew the Ivorians would come strong against us.”
The Super Eagles, adopted a different shape for the game, starting with three defenders, and successfully executed their game plan.
“We waited for them in the midfield, waiting for them to make mistakes, but I am really happy about this win, and we will keep on going from here.”
Reflecting on the significance of the win, Osimhen expressed his satisfaction, saying: “It’s a big win for us, and we keep on building on this momentum.”
With the result, Nigeria now share the top spot in their section with Equatorial Guinea, who secured a 4-2 victory against Guinea-Bissau earlier on Thursday.
