The National leadership of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has alerted that no form of meeting including that of National Executive Committee (NEC) has been scheduled before kick-off of upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’ivoire.

SWAN National President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, stated this in a statement issued by the Association’s Secretary-General, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, on Friday January 5, 2024.

The statement affirmed that the SWAN statute which remains the guiding operational document for the association stipulates that only the sitting President has the mandate to preside over NEC meetings and other Congress/meetings including National Full Council, Convention etc.

“SWAN is an association governed by rules as contained in its status particularly in Article 11 and 14 as regards functions, order and composition of meetings. We have been well guided even in the quorum of our NEC meetings and decisions as categorically outlined on Article 14,  sub C iii, E, Article 15 as well as in Article 21, Sub 2a among others.

“Anyone who decides to go against the statute will attract the full consequences of the law on him or herself,” the SWAN President affirmed.

The number one Sports Writer in Nigeria also informed that already plans are on by the leadership to convene Full Council Meeting after AFCON tournament and that NEC meeting will take place earlier on.

“The current SWAN leadership has held two NEC meetings in three months, between October and December 2023, the last being on December 7 where necessary issues were discussed for the development of the association. Fom the meeting, there are already moves to ensure that 2024 turns out fruitful for all members more than ever before in the history of SWAN,” he said.

“Being the year that SWAN will turn 60 since its creation in 1964, soon a number of events aimed at celebrating its epoch-making anniversary will be rolled out,” he added.
