Ghanaian football legend, Mohammed Polo, has expressed optimism about the Black Stars’ performance in the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), predicting that the team will reach the semifinals.
Polo, a member of the 1978 AFCON-winning team, believes that the current performance of the Black Stars is promising.
Polo stated, “With the team’s current performance, I think they can reach the semi-finals, but it will be difficult to win the title.”former Hearts of Oak coach told btolat.com.
This positive outlook from a football veteran adds to the anticipation and hopes surrounding Ghana’s national team as they aim to secure their fifth AFCON title.
The Black Stars faced disappointment in the previous edition of the tournament in Cameroon, exiting at the group phase.
However, Polo sees potential in the current squad’s capabilities to make a deeper impact in the competition.
Ghana has been drawn into Group B for the AFCON tournament and will contend with Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique.
The team’s journey begins with a match against Cape Verde at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on January 14, 2024, followed by clashes with Egypt and Mozambique.
As the Black Stars continue their preparations, Polo’s positive prediction adds to the excitement and anticipation among football enthusiasts in Ghana.
The tournament is scheduled to take place in Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
