Frimpong Manso, former Ghana international and current head coach of Bibiani Goldstars, has shared his perspective on the Black Stars’ journey in the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Manso predicts that the Black Stars may face challenges in the group stage but expresses confidence in the team’s ability to progress to the knockout stage.
In an interview with Kessben FM, Manso remarked, “I think we will struggle a bit in the group stage but I believe we will qualify to the next round.”
He anticipates a challenging path ahead, especially in the knockout stage, where stronger opponents like Ivory Coast or Nigeria may await.
Manso draws parallels with Ghana’s performance in the 2010 AFCON held in Angola, where the team faced challenges in the group stage but managed to reach the final.
He acknowledges that the competition will be tough, emphasizing the need for the Black Stars to navigate through a potentially challenging group stage.
Ghana, housed in Group B alongside Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique, will kick off their AFCON campaign on January 14, 2024, against Cape Verde.
Manso’s insights add to the diverse perspectives surrounding Ghana’s performance in the tournament.
The Black Stars aim to secure their fifth AFCON title, with their last triumph dating back to 1982.
As the team continues preparations in Kumasi, football enthusiasts await the start of the tournament scheduled from January 13 to February 11, 2024, in Ivory Coast.
