Nicolas Jackson featured for Senegal as they made it three wins from three games in the group stage of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Senegal went into their final group stage of this year’s Africa Cup of Nations off the back of victories over Gambia and Cameroon, meaning both they and their final group stage opponents Guinea were already assured of a place in the knockout stages before kick-off.
However, Senegal were determined to claim top spot to increase their chances of a favourable draw, as well as continuing to play in their current base of Yamoussoukro in the next round.
Just like in their previous two matches, Nicolas Jackson started among the Senegal substitutes, before replacing fellow striker Habib Diallo late on to help his country see out the win.
The Teranga Lions were already 1-0 up when Jackson came on, thanks to Abdoulaye Seck’s header from a set-piece, and Iliman Ndiaye fired into the bottom corner to make it 2-0 shortly after Nicolas was introduced.
That means holders Senegal continue their defence of the Africa Cup of Nations into the last 16 with a 100 per cent record. They will next play on Monday 29 January when they take on the third-placed team from either Group A – hosts Ivory Coast – or Group F – which could still be any one of Morocco, DR Congo, Zambia and Tanzania.
