Athletic Bilbao striker Inaki Williams is set to join the Black Stars camp on Thursday after recovering from an illness, the club has confirmed.
Williams had contracted an illness earlier this week, preventing him from initially joining the team’s camp.
In a statement, Athletic Bilbao clarified, “Iñaki Williams has been assessed by Athletic Club’s medical services, who have confirmed the striker has recovered from the illness suffered during the last few days.
Iñaki will travel to Ghana on Thursday morning to join the Black Stars’ training camp ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations.”
The Black Stars commenced their camp in Kumasi on Tuesday, January 2, at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Abrankese, with 24 players. Jordan Ayew and Richard Ofori are also expected to join the team later.
As part of their preparations, the Black Stars will play a friendly against Namibia on January 8 at the Baba Yara Stadium before departing for Ivory Coast.
Ghana is in Group B for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament and will face Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique in matches scheduled from January 13 to February 11.
The team’s first group-stage match is against Cape Verde on January 14, 2024.
