BURTON Albion Academy have appointed Francois Zoko as Head of Coaching.
Following an extensive recruitment process, Francois will oversee the Academy’s u9-u19 age groups, following the departure of Courtney Pitt to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Francois is a former Ivory Coast youth international player whose playing career spanned across a number of countries including France and England. Nancy, Bradford City, Blackpool, Yeovil, Stevenage & Notts County are among his clubs.
The 40-year-old has most notably worked across a number of development phases at Lincoln City and has recently graduated with a High Education Diploma in Professional Football Development at Leeds Beckett University.
Following his appointment, Zoko said: “The academy setup at the football club is very good and I’m thrilled to be here.
“Whenever I have come up against Burton as a coach in the past I have always commented on their progression and the coaches have clearly been doing a fantastic job. I have spent a little while here now and have got to see it from the inside, and it’s been pretty impressive.
“I will aim to better the coaches and will be on the grass myself as well, but my main role will be to help oversee and develop the coaching programme and to help get them ready for full time football.”
“Ultimately, the aim is to see players coming through and eventually breaking into the first team.”
Keith Gilroy, Lead PDP Coach, said: “We are delighted to have Francois on board. There were some excellent candidates looking to join our Academy and continue improving the excellent work that has been happening over the past decade.
“Francois brings a wealth of experience in both playing and coaching in youth development. He is passionate about developing young players and developing coaches for the ages and stages of academy football. He will have full control of the coaching programme u9-u19s and development of coaches that align with our club and Academy values.”
New Manager Martin Paterson said: “Francois’ role at the club is extremely important and it will help with the continuation of developing our players and coaching.
“He will help to keep the academy aligned with the first time and will work closely with Keith to update the first team staff on any emerging talent and developments that we need to be aware of.”
