AFCON 2023: Ndidi lauds Super Eagles’ group stage success

Wilfred Ndidi is thrilled with the Super Eagles’ performance in the group stage of the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles are among the teams that have already qualified for the Round of 16 of the competition.

Jose Peseiro’s side achieved the feat after recording a 1-0 victory against the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau on Monday.

They finished second in Group A behind Equatorial Guinea.

Ndidi was named in Nigeria’s squad for the AFCON 2023 finals but was later replaced by Alhassan Yusuf due to injury.

The Leicester City star, who was disappointed not to be in Cote d’Ivoire with his teammates backed them to go all the way in the competition.

“It was really bad for me not to be there but I’m so happy for the team because even from last year, this is what we have been planning to go for the AFCON,” Ndidi told Sky Sports.

“Just try as much as possible to get to the final. We planned to win games which gets you to the next stage.”

The Super Eagles will face eternal rivals, Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the Round of 16 on Saturday.
