The Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau and the Atlas Lions of Morocco have arrived early in Côte d’Ivoire for this year’s Africa Cup of Nations, according to the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Both teams aim to challenge the Super Eagles of Nigeria for the tournament title.
CAF announced Guinea-Bissau’s arrival on the night of Sunday, January 7, sharing photos of the Djurtus’ players and officials touching down in Côte d’Ivoire. The post read: “The Djurtus have touched down in Côte d’Ivoire.”
In preparation for the tournament, Guinea-Bissau lost 6-2 to the Eagles of Mali in a final friendly game in Bamako before heading to Côte d’Ivoire. They are placed in Group A alongside Côte d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, and Nigeria’s Super Eagles. The Djurtus will face Côte d’Ivoire in the opening game scheduled for Saturday, January 13, in Abidjan.
The Moroccan team, the Atlas Lions, also landed in Côte d’Ivoire for the AFCON. As favorites, they are aiming to secure their second continental title after winning the tournament in 1976, with the recent success at the Qatar 2022 World Cup boosting their confidence
