- Last month, French IPP, Energie Plus, signed an agreement with Burkina Faso’s Minister of Energy, Mines and Quarries, Mr Simon-Pierre Boussim, to develop a 50 MW solar power plant in Komsilga (Kadiogo province, Centre region).
- Burkina Faso is a landlocked country in West Africa with an area of 274,223 km², bordered by Mali to the northwest, Niger to the northeast, Benin to the southeast, Togo and Ghana to the south, and Ivory Coast to the southwest.
A press release issued by the Communications and Press Relations Department of the Ministry of Mines confirms that the company Energie Plus and the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Quarries have signed an agreement for the construction of a 50 MWp solar power plant in the commune of Komsilga.
“We have just achieved a major milestone in supporting the government in its strategy to increase the supply of electricity in Burkina Faso“, said Serge Conseiga, Managing Director of Energie Plus company.
It is unclear when financial close will be reach and construction begins.

According to the IEA, in 2019, Burkina Faso’s energy mix was dominated by biofuels and wastes, with oil products accounting for one-third of the total energy supply. In 2020, 11% of the population had access to clean cooking and only 21% had access to electricity, making Burkina Faso one of the world’s least-electrified countries.
